Letter to the Editor | Concerned over same-sex marriage

June 21, 2014

As I ponder the recent ruling of a judge — appointed, not elected — to overturn state law to legalize same-sex marriage, I am concerned about where we’re heading as supposedly a government of the people and by the people.

Allowing one judge to make a decision with such broad effects is hardly a government by the people or of the people.

A law as far-reaching as this should be brought to the people of the state to decide. A quote from John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people, it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Also, for consideration would be Romans 1:24-28:

“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”

The good news: God will have mercy, if we repent.
