Little League roundup: Bellefonte rallies to beat Mifflin County

Down 5-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Bellefonte rallied for three runs to beat Mifflin County 6-5 on Friday in District 5 11-12 year-old Little League All-Star action.

Ben Macafe grounded into a fielder’s choice which allowed Colton Bird to score the winning run.

CJ Funk led Bellefonte’s offense by going 3 for 3 with a home run, double, single and three RBIs. Ben McCartney picked the up win on the mound and helped his cause with a two-run home run.

Bellefonte will face Clearfield, which defeated Philipsburg-Osceola 22-17 on Sunday.

Bald Eagle Area 10, Four Leaf 4

Jaden Jones and Matthew Reese each homered in the first inning as Bald Eagle Area survived its elimination game.

Bald Eagle Area will host Mifflin County, a 6-5 loser to Bellefonte, in another elimination game on Sunday.

Jones was 2 for 4, leading off the game with a homer, and Reese was 3 for 5 with two homers and five RBIs, adding a two-run shot two batters after Jones in the first. Gage McClenehan was 3 for 4, Drew Bucha cracked a pair of doubles and winning pitcher Tyler Hilgar added a double and single. Nick Maynard finished the game with four shutout innings of relief.

Ayden Gutierrez hit a two-run homer for Four Leaf, Clay Nearhood delivered a pair of doubles and Ryan Thompson had a double and single.

Clearfield 22, Philipsburg-Osceola 17

Clearfield and Philipsburg-Osceola poured on the offense in Friday’s District 5 game.

Philipsburg-Osceola led 15-7 after three innings but a 13-run fourth inning gave Clearfield the lead it wouldn’t lose.

Quenton Mosoak led the P-O lineup with a home run, double and two singles. Mosoak finished the game with four RBIs while Tyler Doyle drove in three with a home run, double and single.

P-O will host Big Valley on Sunday.

Alan Myers got the win on the mound, hit three home runs and drove in seven runs. Myers had a solo shot, a two-run drive and a grand slam.

Softball

State College claims District 5 crown

Lily Sullivan pitched a complete two-hitter to lead State College over Bald Eagle Area 10-0 in five innings on Friday in 11-12 All-Star action.

Sullivan also struck out six on the mound.

Ashley Thomas led the hitting attack for the Lady Little Lions with two doubles and a triple. State College will play in the PA Section 4 tournament in Mount Union next week.
