Penn State men’s lacrosse: Pair of Nittany Lions make U.S. squad

June 30, 2014

A pair of Penn State alumni were named to the U.S. national team for the FIL World Championships.

Drew Adams and Greg Gurenlian were announced as part of the team Monday, giving Penn State two representatives on the 23-man team for the first time.

Adams, a 2009 graduate, was the Major League Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 and 2012, while Gurenlian has fought through a shoulder injury earlier in the year to be a late addition to the roster.

They will not be the only Nittany Lions at the tournament. Rising junior Matt Sexton will be a member of the Great Britain team, coach Jeff Tambroni will be an assistant coach for the U.S., and Penn State assistant coach Chris Doctor will be an assistant coach for the Iroquois National team.

The tournament, which has 38 teams competing and will be held in Commerce City, Colo., begins July 10 with the U.S. facing Canada.
