Osceola Mills man convicted of sexually abusing mentally challenged girl

A Moshannon Valley man was convicted Tuesday of pages of charges in the sexual abuse of a mentally challenged child.

Phillip D. Colton, 56, of Osceola Mills, was found guilty of a slate of felony crimes including three counts of rape of a mentally disabled person, three counts of rape of a child, three counts of statutory sexual assault, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person with a mental disability, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person under age 16, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, six counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, six of counts of aggravated indecent assault on a person with a mental disability, six counts of aggravated indecent assault on a person under 13, three counts of child pornography and one count of disseminating explicit sexual material to a child.

He also was convicted of misdemeanors, including 11 counts of indecent assault on a person under 13 and 11 counts indecent assault on a person with a mental disability.

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller credited the conviction to “a very attentive and thoughtful jury who heard a young girl bravely testify about how a trusted adult sexually abused her over a period of years.”

The young victim took the stand Tuesday morning.

“By telling her they believed her, this jury turned her from a victim into a survivor who can turn a page, and for that we thank them,” Parks Miller said.
