One killed, another injured in motorcycle crash on state Route 504 near Unionville

From CDT staff reportsJuly 2, 2014

A Port Matilda woman died Wednesday in a motorcycle crash in Union Township.

Karen Moore, 50, was a passenger on a Yamaha motorcycle driven by Charles Oliver II, 52, of Andreas, on state Route 504 about 5.5 miles west of Unionville, state police at Philipsburg said.

At about 1:40 p.m., Oliver failed to negotiate a curve while driving east and traveled off the road and into a gravel area, police said.

As the motorcycle slid through the gravel, Oliver and Moore — neither of whom was wearing a helmet — were ejected into a metal guard rail, police said.

Oliver was flown to the Altoona Regional Health System Trauma Center with what police described as “major injuries.”

Moore died at the scene from her injuries, police said.

Milesburg Fire Company, Bellefonte EMS and the Centre County Coroner assisted at the crash site.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and are investigating.
