AUBURN, N.Y. — The State College Spikes showed off the New York-Penn League’s best offense once again Tuesday night.
Rowan Wick also showed off his home run hitting prowess.
Wick clubbed his league-leading 12th home run, the Spikes collected 12 hits and State College pitchers struck out 15 batters in a 10-2 domination of the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park.
Robelys Reyes cracked a three-run homer and Jhohan Acevedo knocked in four runs as State College (18-7) ran its win streak to a season-best seven straight and has scored more runs than any other league team.
Fernando Baez (1-0) earned his first win as a Spike, striking out seven while allowing two hits, three walks and a run over five innings. Nick Lomascolo added four strikeouts, and Kyle Grana and Jacob Booden registered two apiece in relief.
Drew Van Orden (0-2) was tagged with eight runs, eight hits, one hit batter and a walk with two strikeouts in the loss.
Wick, who has already set the franchise record for homers in a season, extended his record with a two-run blast to right field in the second inning. Wick was 2 for 4 and now leads the league in homers, RBIs (30) and batting average (.400).
Acevedo added a two-run single in the frame.
Jeff Gardner answered with a solo homer for the Doubledays in the bottom of the second.
State College added five more runs in the fourth. Acevedo plated two more runs with a bases-loaded single, and Reyes followed with his three-run shot.
Nick Thompson added the final State College run with a sixth-inning RBI double, and an Osvaldo Abreu RBI single in the bottom of the ninth closed the scoring.
State College begins a six-game homestand Wednesday. The series opens at 7:05 p.m. with Spikes right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon (1-0) facing Brooklyn Cyclones righty Scarlyn Reyes (0-1).
