American Legion baseball: Bellefonte opens Central Penn League tournament with win over State College

July 11, 2014

— It took a few innings but Bellefonte’s offense finally got going late and propelled the Bandits to a 7-1 win over State College on Friday to open play in the Central Penn League Tournament in American Legion baseball.

The win pushed the Bandits into the second round where they will face Miffilin County, a 16-1 winner over Philipsburg, at 2 p.m. Saturday in the double-elimination tournament.

Dan Roan struck out six State College hitters and earned the win. Roan helped his own effort with three singles and two RBIs. Bellefonte’s Zach Williams turned in the go-ahead hit in the top of the sixth inning when his single plated Roan. Zach Musser had two hits for Bellefonte while Colton Treaster hit a two-RBI triple to pad Bellefonte’s lead in the sixth.

Kenny Craig took the loss for State College.
