Penn State student severely injured in pedestrian hit-and-run crash

A 21-year-old Penn State student suffered what police called life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning on Blue Course Drive.

Ferguson Township police said the man was walking along the road and pulling a wheeled cooler when he was struck and run over before 5 a.m. on the 500 block of Blue Course near the intersection with Westwind Drive. The vehicle had left the scene when the man was found lying in the roadway by a passing taxi driver. The man, who was not identified by police, was flown to UPMC Altoona.

Crash investigation specialists were called in to document the scene and collect evidence. Ferguson Township police were assisted at the scene by Patton Township police, Centre LifeLink EMS and Alpha fire police and fire personnel.

Police said the vehicle left the scene in an unknown direction after the crash. Anyone who saw the crash or has information about the vehicle or its driver is asked to call police at 237-1172 or 800-479-0050.
