Penn State football: Hull named to Butkus Award watch list

July 14, 2014

— Penn State’s Mike Hull has been named to the Preseason football watch list for the Butkus Award.

The senior linebacker from Canonsburg is among 51 players on the list, named in honor of former Chicago Bear and Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus.

Hull was second on the team last season with 78 tackles, with 44 solo, 4.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble. He also ranked fifth in the Big Ten averaging 9.1 tackles per game. He had the solid numbers despite missing two full games and most of two other contests.

The Nittany Lions finished 7-5 last season and face Central Florida in the Croke Park Classic in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 30.
