Penn State swimming: Scholar honors for 18 Nittany Lions

— Penn State had 18 team members named College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Americans, including six first-team awards for members of the women’s team.

The Nittany Lion women also earned the Team Scholar All-America award.

Alyson Ackman, Mackenzie Powers, Gabi Shishkoff, Megan Siverling, Katelyn Sowinski and Chelsea Weedman each were named to the first team. Carolyn Fittin, Casey Francis, Meredith Harbison, Caitlyn Karr, Stefanie Schmidt, Haley Sinatro, Megan Springsteen and Chelsea VanderWeele each earned honorable mention honors. The 14 selections for the women is a program record.

On the men’s side, Shane Austin, Scott Heil, Matt Salig and Andrew Schuehler each garnered honorable mention accolades.

Ackman, Powers, Siverling and Shishkoff each earned individual All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.

The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative or term grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with their respective championship and have qualified for and competed at the NCAA or NAIA championship. Divers qualify with a 3.5 gpa or higher while achieving a “B” time standard without making it to the national championship meet.
