SPRING MILLS — The Penns Valley Area School District board of directors voted Wednesday to approve teacher contracts, effective July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2018.
Teacher contracts were unanimously approved at the board meeting after a closed meeting June 25 to discuss contract, legal and personnel matters.
“We believe this is a balanced, fair and reasonable contract for the next few years,” said Chris Houser, board president.
The agreement refers to the collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Penns Valley Education Association.
It includes wage increases for teachers and athletic and extracurricular advisers by 2.5 percent in 2015-16, 2.7 percent in 2016-17 and 2.9 percent in 2017-18.
The agreement also includes increased extra-duty compensation, from $29 an hour to $30 an hour. There is also a no-strike clause that prohibits a lockout.
It also eliminates a lower deductible health care plan, according to a report from the district.
“It will help maintain teacher stability,” said board member Jay Martin. “That’s what having this early-bird contract means.”
A handful of teachers who were at the meeting declined to comment.
