closeLEWISTOWN — Bellefonte's defense had no answer for Indian Valley's rushing attack Friday, especially Mitch Fultz.
The Warriors’ tailback ran for 276 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries as Indian Valley rolled up 415 r ushing yards in a 48-8 rout of the Red Raiders at Mitchell Field.
Quarterback Will Long added 73 yards and two scores on five carries for the Warriors, who held a whopping 415-16 edge on the ground. Long also tossed two touchdown passes and returned an interception for a score.
Long got the scoring started with a 28-yard touchdown run just 51 seconds into the contest.
Bellefonte’s lone highlight followed as Travis Struble took the ensuing kickoff and raced 77 yards for a touchdown. Caleb Williamson’s conversion run gave the Red Raiders (1-8) an 8-7 lead with 10:55 remaining in the quarter.
Indian Valley (2-7) bounced back and took the lead for good on Long’s 17-yard scoring strike to Fultz with 4:19 left in the period.
The Warriors pushed their lead to 35-8 at the half. Fultz and Long each scored on 10-yard runs early in the second quarter. Long then picked off Bellefonte’s Ty Warner and rambled 44 yards for a score.
The Warriors got the mercy rule invoked late in the third quarter on Long’s 6-yard scoring pass to Morgan Barger. Less than a minute later after a Bellefonte turnover, Fultz bolted 70 yards for the final score.
Indian Valley’s defense, which had been giving up 35 points per game, stymied the Red Raiders’ attack and forced four turnovers.
Warner completed 13 of 29 passes for 124 yards, but was intercepted three times. Torin Miller had five catches for 51 yards and Matt Watson snared five for 49 yards to pace a Red Raiders offense that has not scored in two games.
Bellefonte concludes its season next Friday by hosting Centre County rival Bald Eagle Area at 7 p.m. at Rogers Stadium.
