PHILIPSBURG — Kelsey Gonder collected 16 service points, including six aces, as the Philipsburg- Osceola girls' volleyball team thumped Indian Valley 25-10, 25-9, 25-7 Thursday.
Gonder also had 25 assists to lead a P-O attack that included 15 kills from Taylor Harpster. Carolyn Gallagher added six kills and Natasha Frank collected six digs.
Huntingdon outlasts Lady Rams
HUNTINGDON — Penns Valley showed a strong effort Thursday night, despite losing 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 to perennial state power Huntingdon.
The Lady Rams held a late lead during the second set but could not put the Lady Bearcats away.
Maria Andrews led the Lady Rams with seven kills and two blocks, while Taylor Poorman tallied 15 assists. Kendyl Paolini led the way defensively with 12 digs.
The schedule does not get easier for Penns Valley (1-1), which next hosts Phillipsburg-Osceola on Monday.
BEA triumphs over Tyrone
WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area made quick work of Tyrone on Thursday with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-9 sweep.
The Lady Eagles’ Nicole Reese served up 12 aces with Kelsey Shaw tallying 10 assists. Kendra Fetzer had seven assists and three kills.
Lady Red Raiders oust Lady Panthers
BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte put in a strong 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 sweep of Lewistown on Thursday.
Kaity Clouser led Bellefonte (2-0) in kills with 12, and Jena Matter pitched in with eight of her own.
Emily Putnam guided the offense with 23 assists. Defensively, Mandy Robbins tallied 11 digs.

Davies nets game-winner
BURNHAM — A penalty kick from Angela Davies in the 36th minute was all Bellefonte needed to edge past Indian Valley 1-0 Thursday.
Bellefonte outshot Indian Valley 7-2, with four of those shots on goal. Brooke Red-fern was solid in net, stopping both the shots she saw from the Warriors.
The victory improved the Lady Raiders to 3-1. Their next game will be against Lewistown on Tuesday.
Penns Valley whips Tyrone
TYRONE — Brooke Lindsay and Liz Ventura each scored twice inside the first 12 minutes as Penns Valley raced to a 5-0 lead on its way to a 7-0 rout of Tyrone on Thursday.
Katie Deardorff and Carorlyn Darr also scored in the first half for the Lady Rams (2-1), who outshot Tyrone 25-2. Leah Mothersbaugh added an unassisted goal in the second half.
“Our veteran players took control early,” Penns Valley coach Jeff Wiest said. “It was nice to get our younger players some significant action.”
BEA falls to Huntingdon
WINGATE — Huntingdon’s Valerie Hersh broke up a tie game with a goal in the 61st minute Thursday as the Lady Bearcats edged Bald Eagle Area 2-1.
Olivia Hardy knocked in an unassisted goal in the eighth minute of the game for the Lady Eagles (0-2). The one-goal lead held up until 11 minutes into the second half, when Huntingdon’s Natalie Isett scored an unassisted goal.
Chelsea Lucas finished with 17 saves in goal for BEA.
Grace Prep captures win
STATE COLLEGE — Grace Prep moved past Blair County Christian 4-1 Thursday.
Samantha Bohlman and Caitlin Crable each scored two goals for the Lady Storm, who tallied 38 shots as a team.
Grace Prep’sRachel Snidersaved 12 shots in goal.

Indian Valley downs Bellefonte
BELLEFONTE — Three goals in six minutes proved to be the downfall for Bellefonte in a 4-2 loss Thursday to Indian Valley.
Everything started well for the Red Raiders thanks to a goal from Brett Boatman in the fourth minute, but the defense soon struggled.
The scoring started for Indian Valley in the 11th minute with a goal from Kyle Lewis. Issac Peglow added a second goal for Indian Valley in the 16th, and he came back a minute later with the eventual game-winner.
Bellefonte scored four minutes later with a 21st-minute Brandon Richards strike, with help from Tyler Hill.
Collin Smith added the insurance goal for Indian Valley in the 73rd minute.
Bellefonte’s next game will be a home contest against Lewistown on Tuesday.
Huntingdon ousts Bald Eagle Area
HUNTINGDON — Led by Sean Cummin’s two first-half goals, Huntingdon jumped out to a four-goal lead after the first 15 minutes Thursday en route to a 5-1 win over Bald Eagle Area.
Shane Besong scored for BEA (2-2) in the 60th minute with an assist from Danny Styles.
Rams earn shutout
SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley picked up three goals in the first half and rolled to a 5-0 over Tyrone on Thursday.
Anthony Glosser led the charge for Penns Valley with two goals at 8:58 and 17:04, and an assist of a Derrick Wasson goal at the 70:50 mark. Evan Gover had three points of his own in the form of two assists and a goal.
Tyler Silks added a goal and assist for Penns Valley, and John Downie picked up a goal off an assist from McCade Lynch; the first of Lynch’s two on the evening.
The Rams (3-1), who dominated with a 24-2 advantage in shots, play at BEA on Tuesday.
Rothgeb, Paul pace Storm
STATE COLLEGE — Jon Rothgeb scored three goals whileSmith Paul added two goals with two assists Thursday to help Grace Prep topple Blair County Christian 6-2.
Tom Sicree also scored for Grace Prep with goalie Lathom Thompson saving eight shots to earn the shutout.
BOY'S GOLF
State College has strong day
LEWISTOWN — State College finished with a team score of 329 Thursday to easily defeat Indian Valley (349), Central Mountain (388) and Philipsburg-Osceola (424).
Central Mountain’s Evan Helbly earned medalist honors with a six-over-par 78.
Nate Frey led the Little Lions (6-0) with an 80, Cody Moore shot an 81 with Tanner Curley and Adam Herrington each notching 84s.
Hollidaysburg sweeps field
ROARING SPRINGS — Hollidaysburg’s Jared Wood shot a two-over 74 Thursday to lead the Golden Tigers (309) past Central (340), Penns Valley (366) and Huntingdon (388).
Penns Valley was led by Zach Stahl’s 87, which was good for sixth overall, while Joey McNitt finished with a 90.
Tyrone wins big
MINGOVILLE — Tyrone’s Jimmy Ferguson shot a two-over 74 with brother Craig Ferguson Jr. shooting a 75 Thursday as Tyrone (317) ran away with victories over Bellefonte (369), Altoona (369) and Lewistown (409).
The Red Raiders (4-2-1) were led by Caleb Thomas’ 87 and Jon Kowalchuk’s 90.

Lady Little Lions roll again
MILL HALL — State College lost just four games during its five victories Thursday as the Lady Little Lions swept Central Mountain 5-0.
Cara Rangaswamy, Desiree Dennis and Kate Carpenter each won in singles while the pairs of Maria DiMuccio-Jenna Maxfield and Kelly DiMuccio-Becca Rountree each claimed doubles victories.
