closePHILIPSBURG — In a mid-season match Thursday between two undefeated teams in Mountain League play, the Philipsburg-Osceola girls' volleyball team topped Bellefonte 25-12, 25-15, 25-22.
Taylor Harpster led a strong P-O effort with 18 kills, followed by Natasha Frank with 11. Kelsey Gonder dished out 28 assists, Alexsa Pollick had five digs and Julianne Grey had three aces for the Lady Mounties (10-2, 7-0)
Bellefonte (6-1) was led by Jerrica Harvey’s 15 digs, Kaity Clouser’s 11 kills and Emily Putnam with 19 assists.
BEA triumphs
BURNHAM — Bald Eagle Area continued its strong start by sweeping Indian Valley 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 on Thursday
BEA setter Kelsey Shaw led the offense with 25 assists while Kayla Confer collected 13 kills. Katelyn Miller and Kendra Miller each had nine kills and Nicole Reese totaled five aces.
Lady Rams come up short
SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley took the first game Thursday but Central responded, claiming a 23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-20 victory.
Maria Andrews had 10 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Rams (2-5), Kasey Packer had 10 digs, Taylor Poorman had 24 assists and Kendyl Paolini added 10 digs and four aces.

Penns Valley slips past Bellefonte
SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley used a first-half goal from Carolyn Darr on Thursday to blank Bellefonte 1-0.
Darr scored unassisted in the 27th minute.
“Bellefonte, they’re a real quality team so coming away with a victory on their home field is a nice win and a good accomplishment for our team,” said Penns Valley coach Jeff Wiest. “Our defense — Tess Deardorff, Alicia Lindsay, Grace Gover and Jeanne Case — all played a heck of a game. We were bending a lot but we sure didn’t break.”
Robin Siegenthaler made four saves for the shutout for Penns Valley (5-3).
Brooke Redfern stopped two shots for Bellefonte (6-2).
Philipsburg-Osceola blanks West Branch
ALLPORT — Philipsburg- Osceola only needed one goal to take a 1-0 win over West Branch Thursday.
Th goal came from Annetta Czar, with an assist from Alison Patrick at the 27:36 mark of the first half.
Amanda Czar recorded three saves to earn the shutout for the Lady Mounties (4-4), who held a 9-3 edge in shots.
Grace Prep cruises
LEWISTOWN — Sam Bohlman scored three times while Caitlin Crable added two goals in Grace Prep’s 8-1 victory over Mifflin County Christian on Thursday.
Kalki Streit, Alyssa Alexanderand Lexi Gresh each added a goal for Grace Prep (4-3).

Penns Valley wins big
SPRING MILLS — Tyler Silks scored three of his four goals in the first 16 minutes of the game Thursday as Penns Valley thumped Bellefonte 8-1.
Anthony Glossner, Stefan Kelly, John Downie and Syeed Malik added goals for the Rams (7-1).
Garrett Barkley scored for the Red Raiders.
Nate Sweeley made one save for Penns Valley while Mike Jessop had 10 for Bellefonte.
Tyrone drops BEA
TYRONE — Mathia Palaia, Niko Lambert and Josh Burwell each scored second-half goals to key Tyrone to a 3-1 victory over Bald Eagle Area on Thursday.
Josh Schall gave the Eagles (3-6) the lead late in the first half on an assist by Dan Styles. Josh Snyder made 13 saves for BEA.
Kyle Harrity stopped five shots for Tyrone (3-4).
Grace Prep prevails
LEWISTOWN — Smith Paul notched three goals while Davis Streit and Jon Rothgeb each added two goals Thursday to lead Grace Prep past Mifflin County Christian 8-3.
Harry Tuttle also scored for the Storm (6-1)
BOY'S GOLF
Bellefonte falls at Altoona
ALTOONA — Caleb Thomas tied a personal best with an 84 Thursday to lead Bellefonte at Park Hills Country Club.
Altoona’s Alex Elliott scored the day’s low round with an 11-over-par 81 as the Mountain Lions won with a 339, followed by Central (349), Indian Valley (351) and Bellefonte (360).
Robbie Proper shot a personal-best 87 and John Kowalchuk scored a 91 for the Red Raiders.
State College triumphs
BOALSBURG — State College took home two wins in as many days Thursday, topping Penns Valley with a 326.
Adam Harrington set the pace for the Little Lions (12-0) with a 70, while Tanner Curley, Graham Nye and Max Sutherland all shot 82. Not participating in the match but still registering a score for the State College was Nate Frey (72).
The Little Lions also won the DuBois Invitational title Wednesday with a 305.
Graham Nyecarded a 72 to lead State College. Frey (74), Harrington (78) and Curley (81) also keyed the Little Lions.
Punxsutawney’s Ethan Renwick won with a 66.
P-O splits
HUNTINGDON — Philipsburg-Osceola shot a 358 to top Huntingdon, but the scored was not good enough to beat Tyrone on Thursday in a tri-meet.
Jimmy Ferguson was the individual leader for Tyrone, firing a 67.
For P-O the low round came from Hayden Hayward, who shot an 88. Also in the 80s was Ryan Nartatez (89). Andrew Reifer and Tyler Arnold each shot 90 for the Mounties (3-6). Rounding out the scoring was Steve Hutton (110) and Dalton Kaphart (113).
