NORWIN — The Philipsburg-Osceola girls' volleyball team got in a solid tune-up for the coming postseason by capturing the title at the Norwin Girls' Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Mounties (16-0) dropped the host Knights, a Class AAA program, in their first match of the day during pool play, then beat them again in the championship match 25-15. P-O also beat Class AAA Penns Hills 25-19 in the semifinals after racing through pool play undefeated and beating Yough in the quarterfinals.
“It was a really good test,” Lady Mounties assistant coach Dave Eckberg said. “Hopefully this gets us on a little bit of a run.”
P-O, which has one week left in its regular-season schedule before trying to defend its District 6 Class AA crown, hit .388 as a team and was led by Taylor Harpster’s 75 kills and 23 digs for the day Natasha Frank added 65 kills, Aleksa Pollick had 51 kills, Kelsey Gonder gave out 88 assists, Julianne Gray served up 29 points while Brittany Flango had eight aces and Megan Yonushonis posted five blocks.

Centre County Christian finishes fifth in playoffs
SUNBURY — Centre County Christian Academy rebounded from a first-round loss to finish fifth in the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association tournament with a 2-0 victory over Blair County Christian on Friday.
Mikayla Donley scored 30 minutes into the game and assisted on Morgan Donley’s goal 10 minutes later. Goalie Hannah Thomas had five saves and Becky Maholic added one.
Thomas and Jamie Weaver were named ACAA All-Stars on defense, while Naomi Cahill and Morgan Donley were honored on offense for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished their season 9-3.
