SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley softball pitcher Morgan Holsopplehad 12 strikeouts and narrowly missed a perfect game while tossing her second no-hitter in a row Friday as the Lady Rams blanked Clearfield 6-0.
Clearfield managed just two baserunners, Holsopple also no-hit Huntingdon in a 10-0, six-inning victory this past Monday.
Alicia Leitch, Kasey Packerand Nicole Bowersox each led the Lady Rams (11-4) with two hits apiece with Leitch and Packer also scoring two runs apiece. Packer had a triple and Leitch and Rachel Myerseach added a double.
State College pairs advance to finals
ALTOONA — It will be an all-State College final today whenChris Borden andAnurag Kumarsquare off against teammatesAlex Robinsonand Alex Gregory in the District 6 Class AAA doubles championship match at 11 a.m. at the Leopold Rec Center.
In Friday’s semifinals, the No. 1-seeded Borden and Kumar swept Altoona’s Scott Andrews and Alex Raymond 6-1, 6-0. No. 2-seeded Robinson and Gregory took down Hollidaysburg’s Ryan Mextorf and Cameron Humphrey 6-1, 6-3.
Earlier Friday, both State College pairs dropped just one game apiece in their quarterfinal victories. base hits and took advantage of three errors and a hit batter to push across four runs.A.J. Robinson finished the scoring with a two-run single to put the Eagles up 7-0.

Punxsutawney edges State College
STATE COLLEGE — Punxsutawney used a four-run sixth inning and held off a late State College rally to earn a 6-5 decision over the Little Lions.
State College (9-2) entered the bottom of the seventh down three runs beforeJeff Moyer
smacked a leadoff double. Following a strikeout, Justin O’Brienand Will Pryoreach singled to load the bases. After a fly-out, Austin Mockhit a two out, two-run single to plate Moyer and O’Brien. Punxsutawney starting pitcher Sean Smith was then removed with runners on second and third for Dylan Kachmar, who recorded a strikeout to earn the save.
Leading a four-run sixth for the Chucks (6-4) was Jacob Stumpf with a two-run single. Stumpf then added another RBI single and what proved to be the game-winning run in the seventh to put the Chucks up 6-3.
O’Brien finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Mock finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
State College will take on Bald Eagle Area today at 11 a.m. at the Montoursville Tournament.
