closePHILIPSBURG — Carolyn Darrfound the net with the game-winning goal with just under six minutes left as the Penns Valley girls’ soccer team closed its regular-season schedule with a 3-2 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday night.
Katie Deardorffand Liz Venturahad staked the Lady Rams (11-7) to a 2-0 first-half lead, with Deardorff assisting on Ventura’s goal.
P-O stormed back with Ashley Woodscoring on a penalty kick early in the second half. Wood tied the match 16 minutes later.
“We played a strong first half,” Penns Valley coach Jeff Wiest said. “Then we relaxed a bit. ... But towards the end we showed some resolve, and near the end we made some things happen with the game on the line.”
Amanda Czarmade nine saves for the Lady Mounties whileRobin Siegenthaler made four saves for Penns Valley, which meets Laurel Valley in the District 6 playoffs next Thursday.
Bellefonte downs BEA
WINGATE — Bellefonte’s Kristin Buchanan broke up a scoreless tie with her second-half goal Thursday as the Lady Red Raiders edged Bald Eagle Area 1-0.
Midway through the second half, Buchanan notched her unassisted goal at 61:11.
Bellefonte (14-4) held advantages in both shots (15-3) and corner kicks (11- 3) while keeping consistent pressure on the Lady Eagles’ defense.
The Lady Raiders will next host a District 6 Class AAA quarterfinal matchup with Indian Valley on Wednesday.

BEA blanks Bellefonte
BELLEFONTE — Bald Eagle Area took down Bellefonte 2-0 Thursday night at Rogers Stadium to close the season for both teams.
Dan Stylesstaked the Eagles (6-11-1) to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, and BEA held on.Justin Giedroc added an insurance goal on an assist fromBrian Robison in the final minute.
BEA held an 18-6 advantage in shots.Josh Snyder made three saves in the shutout andTyler Ruble stopped eight stops for Bellefonte (3-14-1).
Penns Valley routs P-O
SPRING MILLS — Playing its fourth game in four days, Penns Valley wrapped up the Mountain League’s Nittany Division title while also completing the best regular season in school history Thursday night as the Rams tripped up Philipsburg- Osceola 8-0 on Senior night.
Patrick Whitehillscored two first-half goals andEvan Goveradded a goal and two assists in the opening half as Penns Valley (15-2-1) jumped ahead 3-0.
Anthony Glossnerled the second-half scoring with four goals.Ben Eberly notched a goal and an assist.
The Rams will next take on Cambria Heights in the District 6 Class A semifinals on November 3.

Lady Little Lions fall in semis
ALTOONA — Hollidaysburg’s duo of Natalie Khalouf and Meg Bettwy defeated State College’s Maria Dimuccioand Jenna Maxfieldin the semifinals Thursday at the District 6 Class AAA doubles championships.
The top-seeded Khalouf- Bettwy earned a berth in the finals with straight-0set 6-3, 6-2 vicory over Dimuccio- Maxfield.
Earlier in the day, Dimuccio- Maxfield won a quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-1 over Altoona’s Larissa Vaughn and Cortni McClain.
Also for State College, Kelly Dimuccioand Becca Rountreelost their first round match 7-6, 6-4 to Chelsey Williams and Chelsea Miller from Central Mountain.
