ALTOONA — State College senior girls’ tennis player Corinne Jones easily got past Hollidaysburg’s Anisa Khalouf on Saturday to win her second consecutive District 6 Class AAA Singles title.
Jones, a senior, breezed past the freshman by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and advances to the PIAA Class AAA Championships, Nov. 6-7 at Hershey.
“This was Corinne’s third time in the district final and she knew what to expect,” said State College coach Jane Borden. “Corinne has worked hard all year and was well prepared. Her biggest challenge today was adapting to a different surface.”

Little Lions oust Chambersburg
STATE COLLEGE — It took until Kelton Cheney’s penalty-kick goal in the 74th minute to allow State College to seal its 4-2 victory over Chambersburg on Saturday.
The Trojans’ Robert Ferfaro trimmed State College’s two-goal lead to just one with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.
Entering the second half tied at 1-1, Cheney scored in the 47th minute and later assisted on Robbie Edwards’ goal in the 69th minute off a free kick.
In the first half, Kerem Demirci headed inDavid Trunzo’scorner kick for a 1-0 Little Lion lead in the 17th minute with Tyler Young responding with a goal for the Trojans (9-4-1) in the 21st minute.
Clay Barkman saved 12 shots in goal for the Little Lions (7-4-1), who will next host undefeated Hollidaysburg (14-0) on Monday evening at Memorial Field.
Storm pick up shutout win
ALTOONA — Smith Paul notched two goals Saturday as Grace Prep toppled Blair County Christian 4-0.
Davis Streit and Paul each scored first-half goals with Paul and Jon Rothgeb each scoring in the second half.
Keeper Lathom Thompson saved all six shots he faced for the Storm (10-2).

Whitney nets winner in Lady Little Lion victory
STATE COLLEGE — Rebecca Whitney put in a rebound of her own shot for the game-winning goal as State College rallied with two goals early in the second half to beat Springdale 2-1 Saturday at South Track Field.
Springdale (11-1-1), the state’s top-ranked team in Class AA according to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association, took the lead 2:17 into the contest on Brittany Loveland’s penalty kick.
Lauren Kenney found the net 3:17 into the second half from Kelsey Gill to tie the game. Then, just over three minutes later, Whitney’s initial free kick from the side of the penalty box was blocked by the Dynamos’ keeper, but the ball bounced back to Whitney. The sophomore then booted the ball over the keeper’s hands and inside the far post.
Sarah Sallade made five saves in the win.
Warriors outlast Lady Rams
SPRING MILLS — Jessica Lamberson’s goal in overtime lifted Indian Valley past Penns Valley 2-1 Saturday.
Erin Bishop forced the extra period with her goal in the 72nd minute for Indian Valley.
Katie Deardorff put Penns Valley (7-6) up 1-0 early with an unassisted goal 6:33 into the game.
Grace Prep match ends in tie
ALTOONA — Grace Prep and Blair County Christian ended in a 0-0 tie Saturday.
Meagan Fox saved 14 shots in goal for Grace Prep (4-6-1) to earn the shutout.

Lady Little Lions fall in quarters
MECHANICSBURG — Hempfield edged State College 28-26 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Rally in the Valley Tournament at Cumberland Valley High School.
The Lady Little Lions posted an 8-4 pool-play record after sweeping Lower Dauphin, West Perry and Chambersburg, splitting games with Delone Catholic and Greencastle-Antrim and getting swept by Warwick.
Maggie Harding totaled a team-high 49 digs, Lauren Hester had 26 kills, Suzy Horner tallied 44 assists, Randi Leath had nine blocks with Shannon Traurig adding five aces.
