Centre Volunteers in Medicine
Mission
Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation whose primary mission is to understand and serve the health and wellness needs of uninsured individuals who live in Centre County, Pennsylvania.
History
Since opening in February 2003, CVIM has engaged the community by coordinating volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, social workers, and lay volunteers to provide free medical care, dental care, and case management services to the uninsured and underinsured residents of Centre County.
Services
CVIM serves Centre County residents whose income is 200% or less of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, those who make too much for Medical Assistance yet not enough to afford private insurance.
CVIM provides holistic care including medical, dental, case management services and most medications at no charge to patients.

Medical services include:
- Primary care doctor appointment
- Preventative care
- Prescription medications (in most cases)
- Referrals to specialists
- Diagnostic tests/labs

Dental services include:
- Preventative care, including: exams, cleanings and X-rays
- Restorative care
- Extractions
- Referrals to specialists
- Limited orthodontic care for children
Volunteer physicians, dentists and nurses, including a medical director who volunteers three days per week provide primary medical and dental care. Referrals are made to over 90 specialists who see CVIM patients in their offices at no charge.
CVIM is fortunate to have in-kind support from many medical groups in town which allows for provision of lab and diagnostic tests.
Eligibility
To qualify as a patient, individuals must complete the eligibility process, which includes meeting with an eligibility worker to determine financial guidelines are met and registration paperwork is complete.

Funding
CVIM receives up to 90% of its annual operating funds from contributions and annual special events including the Boston Marathon Challenge. The remainder of funding comes from grants and interest.
