Summers’ Martial Arts based in the State College and Bellefonte YMCAs will host a Kick-a-thon from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the J.C. Penney corridor of the Nittany Mall to benefit the Faith- Centre Food Bank. The FaithCentre Food Bank is the second largest food bank in Centre County and expects to feed more than 1,000 local residents this holiday season.
Tang Soo Do students receive pledges of a penny or more per kick. Under the direction of Master Terry Summers and in group formation, each student completes 1,000 various karate kicks in less than an hour. A martial art and board-breaking demonstration precedes the event.

STATE COLLEGE
Centre Region Parks & Recreation and the State College Area Municipal Band will present “American Salute ’09: Veterans Day Concert” at 3 p.m. today in the State College Area High School South Building auditorium, 650 Westerly Parkway.
The concert will feature American music by Cop-land and Sousa, “Musical Memories of World War II,” “The Armed Forces Medley” and more. The concert is free but donations are welcome.
For more information, visit www.crpr.org. Centre Region Parks & Recreation will sponsor “Parents’ Night Off” from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 20 in Park Forest Elementary School’s all-purpose room. CRPR staff and volunteers will supervise a wide array of activities, including games, crafts and movies. Pizza will be provided and movies will be “kid-appropriate.”
The fee is $15 for residents of State College and the townships of College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton; and $23 for residents of other municipalities. Patton Township Police would like to remind residents that during the snowy months, all sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours after the end of the storm. Residents and visitors are also reminded that there is no parking on Patton Township streets within 48 hours after a snow accumulation of at least two inches or if a snow emergency is declared.

Eileen and Herschel Leibowitz were presented with The Oak Tree Award, in recognition of their service to and support of the foundation over many years.
Tammy Gentzel, of the Community Help Centre received the Future of the Foundation Award, to recognize her organization’s leadership in providing food, clothing, shelter, and other critical services to those in need and its efforts to establish a 211 system in Centre County.
The Kathryn Weaver Award, named to honor a donor who left almost $1 million to the foundation, was presented to the Centre County Youth Service Bureau for its outstanding service to the community.
The guest speaker at the dinner was Steve Gunderson, executive director of the Council on Foundation.
