closeUNIVERSITY PARK – The shuffling among the State College Spikes’ management group continues.
Greenberg Sports Group, which manages the operations of the Spikes and Myrtle Beach Pelicans, announced before Monday’s game that team president Todd Parnell is leaving the organization July 31 to pursue another Minor League Baseball opportunity with longtime friend Chuck Domino.
Parnell worked as the Double-A Altoona Curve’s general manager until managing partner Chuck Greenberg sold the team last December. Parnell’s role and visibility with the Spikes increased after the sale, and he has attended multiple games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this summer.
Parnell was considered Greenberg’s top advisor. The duo has worked together since Greenberg formed a group to purchase the Curve in 2002.
Greenberg’s management group experienced major changes earlier this year, with Parnell moving into the role of Spikes and Pelicans president, former Spikes general manager Rick Janac becoming executive vice president, and former Curve broadcaster and communications director Jason Dambach taking over as Spikes general manager.
Parnell, who lives in Hollidaysburg, started his career in 1990 when Domino hired him as the Reading Phillies’ director of sales and marketing. Domino currently serves as the president at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading.
Parnell will remain a minority partner in the State College and Myrtle Beach ownership groups.
