University Park campus Halloween events abound

Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009

There will be plenty of tricks and treats on Penn State's University Park campus now through Halloween, Oct. 31. A variety of groups and units at the University have events planned. A few of them are listed here:

• The Penn State Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence will hold a Haunted Helicopter Lab and Haunted House from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, and from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, on the second floor of Engineering Unit C, located between Hammond Building and the Hintz Alumni Center. Admission is free.

• The Penn State All-Sports Museum is hosting its first Trick or Treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Visitors will be greeted by student athletes (with lots of candy) as they walk throughout the galleries of the museum. There will be games, prizes, drawings, and photo opportunities in the lobby. The event is free and open to the public.

• The Forensics Club will hold its second annual haunted house. "The Penn State Institute for the Criminally Insane" will be open from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Oct. 31, in Spruce and Pine Cottages. Admission is $4.99 per person.

• La Vie the Penn State Yearbook is hosting a Haunted House in Ritenour Building. The "Ritenour Cosmetic Hellth Center" will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 29 and 30, and from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 31. Admission is $4, with $1 of the entrance fee going to THON. No one under the age of 16 is permitted.

• The School of Theatre will present "We are Dead State," a Haunted House, in the Pavilion Theatre on Oct. 30 and 31. The walking tour re-creates various campus locations such as University Health Services, Berkey Creamery, Nittany Lion Shrine, Pattee Library stacks, and much more, all contained within the theatre. Tours begin at 6:30 p.m., with the last tour at 11 p.m. Geared for teens and older, the walking tour (wheel accessible) lasts approximately 20 minutes. Cost is $3 at the door.

Anyone with information about other University-sponsored or student group-sponsored Halloween events being held on campus should e-mail Live@psu.edu or post the information to Penn State's Facebook site at www.facebook.com/pennstate. Only University-related, non-commercial, on-campus, public events will be included.
