closeBellefonte firm awarded dam contract
The Department of Environmental Protection has selected Haranin Construction Inc., of Bellefonte, as the contractor for a project to remove a dam spanning Conewango Creek in Warren.
The project, which will cost about $99,650, will include dam removal, stream bank stabilization and pavement and sidewalk work.
The project, expected to begin Oct. 19, should be completed by Nov. 28.
D&E donates to medical center project
The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center recently announced that D&E Communications has pledged $25,000 to support the center’s Commitment to Distinction: The Campaign for Mount Nittany Medical Center.
The campaign is led by The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, under the direction of the foundation’s board and steering committee, which supports growth in the health care system by offsetting some of the costs for the east wing expansion.
The expansion will add 61 single-bed patient rooms and 12 intensive care rooms.
Green design firm receives award
A local sustainable energy and construction firm, Envinity, was recently awarded the Pennsylvania Waste Watcher Recognition for Outstanding Achievement Award for 2009.
The award is presented by the Professional Recyclers of PA, the Solid Waste Association of North America, and the Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association. For the past year, Envinity has been accepting batteries and compact fluorescent light bulbs for recycling.
Based in State College, the company’s services and products include green design and construction, energy auditing, and a range of renewable energy solutions, including solar and wind and energy storage systems.
