FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Whatman, the global leader in separations technology, announces a donation of Neonatal Screening Cards to the Clinton HIV / AIDS Initiative (CHAI). The Whatman 903 Neonatal Cards were donated to CHAI for the collection of blood samples for early HIV / AIDS detection in infants in connection with CHAI's Pediatric Initiative. The 903 Neonatal Card is the recognized medical device for blood collection from infants for the screening of inherited metabolic disorders. Such testing is mandatory in the U.S. and in many countries globally for all newborn children.
"The donation of the 903 Neonatal Screening Cards has allowed CHAI to reach more children in developing nations in order to identify those children at risk for HIV / AIDS infection. With early detection these children can be treated with the life-saving medications they need to combat infection," says Maurine Murtagh, Director of Diagnostic Services, CHAI. Helen Evans, Whatman VP of Marketing, says "The donation has re-affirmed the commitment of Whatman to serving children in the detection of inherited and infectious disease."
