Site Doubles Total Volume of Property Listings in First Four Months
LONDON — DotHomes.com (DotHomes), the real estate search engine, today announced that the site has rapidly scaled to double its number of nationwide real estate listings, now providing house hunters the ability to quickly access complete listing details on more than 2 million U.S. residential properties for sale and rent. Building on the considerable momentum since its U.S. debut on January 29, 2008, DotHomes focuses on enabling consumers to quickly search for properties anywhere in the U.S. and then links to the original source of information - the listing agent/broker.
At the heart of the DotHomes search engine lies a proprietary data-mining technology capable of automatically extracting the most relevant information from real estate listings. Scalable indexing of these listings poses a challenge due to the disparate designs of broker Web sites, but the unique DotHomes design automatically learns the nuances of every site. Thus, new sites can be added without any manual intervention. This approach has allowed DotHomes to quickly reach an index of 2 million U.S. listings and gives the site the ability to add sites daily, with the goal of complete market coverage.
"We have been overwhelmed by the positive reaction we've received from listing brokers. We serve as an enabler, allowing potential buyers to find the most relevant property listings on listing broker Web sites," said Douglas de Jager, co-founder of DotHomes. "Our aim is to allow consumers anywhere in the world to find their dream homes. This requires complete and accurate search. With our data-mining approach we will be looking to continue our rapid push for complete coverage. At the same time, we will be looking to build on our one-box search technology, and make this even more expressive and accurate in terms of handling of natural language queries."
DotHomes, the property of BytePlay Ltd., is already the market leader in South Africa, with more than 147,000 estate agent listings, and in the U.K., currently indexing more than 450,000 listings directly from the Web sites of more than 5,000 estate agent offices across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
