closeTeenage superstar Miley Cyrus will appear at the Bryce Jordan Center in November in one of only two stops in Pennsylvania on her upcoming tour.
Tickets for Cyrus’ 2009 North American tour, including her show here Nov. 5, go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. June 13. American Express cardholders will get an early chance to buy tickets, from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. June 12. Tickets prices range from $41.50 to $81.50.
The other Pennsylvania stop is Nov. 4 in Philadelphia.
“It’s quite an accomplishment for us,” said Bernie Punt, BJC director of sales and marketing.
Punt said the same promoter that brought Taylor Swift to the BJC is bringing Cyrus.
Swift tickets sold out in about 20 minutes.
“A lot of it has to do with how well you sell tickets for that promoter,” Punt said of being able to attract big-name concerts.
He said that being in a secondary market, the BJC is only “as good as our last show.”
“We’ve had a very good year so far,” he said.
More than 13,000 tickets will be available to the Cyrus show. Her 45-show tour starts Sept. 14 in Portland, Ore., and includes guest Metro Station.
Miley Cyrus stars in the hit Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana,” now in its third season, and in the feature film “Hannah Montana: The Movie.” Her “Best of Both Worlds 2007-2008” concert tour was one of the most in-demand tours of 2007.
It also generated controversy when tickets to concerts sold out within minutes, only to appear for resale on online sites at much higher prices.
To prevent that from happening again, tickets for Cyrus’ 2009 tour will be entirely paperless.
Cyrus fans will pay for seats with credit cards, but won’t get tickets.
Instead, ticketholders have to bring the credit cards used to buy the tickets along with government-issued photo identification to the show. Everyone the tick-et- buyer is getting tickets for has to be present at that time.
Punt said Cyrus and her management made the decision so that tickets will go to her fans, rather than to buyers looking to resell them at a profit.
