WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area trailed by 19 points after one quarter Friday as Huntingdon earned a 77-56 win over the Eagles.
Mitch Moyer (23) and Cole Goerlich (18) combined to score 41 points for BEA, with Moyer hitting four 3-pointers.
Thomas Burton led Huntingdon with 17 points and Andy Young tallied 13.
Rams fall to Lewistown
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown moved past Penns Valley 47-34 Friday.
The Panthers led 24-12 at halftime and extended its lead to 21 points at the end of the third quarter.
“They pulled away in the second quarter. We played a pretty decent first quarter and we turned the ball over more than we would have liked in the second,” said Penns Valley coach Terry Glunt. “You have to give them credit, they played tough defense.”
Both teams’ leading scorers were held well below their averages as Lewistown’s Elliot Searer netted 12 points and Penns Valley’s Jesse DeLoof finished with two.
Nathan Brown and Kyle Hockenberry each led the Rams (7-4) with five points apiece.
State College holds off Pleasant Valley
STATE COLLEGE — After carrying an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter, State College had to battle to hold off District 11’s Pleasant Valley 54-52 Friday night.
“Somewhere, we must have made one more play that they did,” said State College coach Drew Frank, whose team ran its win streak to three games. “They were more physical than us, they out-rebounded us.”
State College also struggled from the free-throw line, making just 10 of 21 attempts. The Little Lions, however, came through with six 3-pointers.
Jamar Smack led State College with 14 points while Pat St. Andrews added 13.
Bulldogs done in by Swartz’s 43 points
JOHNSTOWN — Zach Swartz could have beaten Centre County Christian himself with 43 points, but he had other Cambria County Christian teammates to help him in a 71-36 thwarting on Friday.
Eddie Campbell led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Skyler Ososkie recorded 10 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
Centre County Christian (0-4) will be back in action at DuBois Christian on Friday.
Red Raiders still searching for a win
MILL HALL — Central Mountain had four players score in double figures in their 83-67 victory over Bellefonte on Friday.
Zach Wert led the Wildcats with 19 points, and Caleb Blazina added 18 points in the win.
“I think we got in a hole early on, we battled back to get within two in the third quarter but Central Mountains free-throw shooting led them,” said Bellefonte head coach Dan Miller.
Zach Tressler led the Red Raiders with 14 points and Seth Tressler added 13 points in the loss. Bellefonte (0-10) will travel to Wingate on Tuesday for an intra-county contest with Bald Eagle Area.
P-O wins thriller in 2 OT
MARTINSBURG — Philipsburg-Osceola couldn’t break away from Central in a back-and-fourth contest on Friday, until the second overtime in a 55-48 victory.
Joe Komisar led the Mounties with 16 points on three 3-pointers, while J.D. Mason added 12 points and Luke Curtis scored 10 points.
“It was a well played game through all four quarters, in the second overtime we just took over,” said Mounties assistant coach Mel Curtis. “Both teams played phenomenal tonight.”
Philipsburg-Osceola (6-4) will host Tyrone on Tuesday.
Girls’ basketball
State College ends skid vs. Altoona
ALTOONA — State College was only up by nine points going into halftime, but started the third quarter on a 13-0 run to put away Altoona 71-43.
The victory ended State College’s 12-game losing streak to Altoona. The Lady Little Lions’ last win in the series came back in March of 2003 in the District 6 Finals, a 55-54 overtime win for State College.
“It was a lot closer in the first half then the score showed,” said State College head coach Bethany Irwin. “We started the third quarter with a big burt, we had a nice run.”
Emily Suhey led State College with 20 points, while Kelsey Guth recorded 19 points and Chrissy Cooper added 18 points in the win.
Jackie Reilly led Altoona with 18 points in the loss.
Harpster leads P-O to win
DUBOIS — Philipsburg-Osceola sophomore Taylor Harpster scored a career-high 36 points Friday as the Lady Mountie girls’ basketball team toppled DuBois 67-52.
Fellow sophomore Megan Yonushonis also had a career-high with 15 points as P-O built a 10 point first-quarter lead, eventually leading by 12 at halftime and 22 after three quarters.
Freshman Lady Mountie Mackenzie Wilson hit two 3-pointers for her six points and Alexis Cartwright also finished with six.
Leah Wallock and Rachel Hicks led the Lady Beavers with 12 points each.
Lady Bulldogslose close contest
JOHNSTOWN — Despite getting 23 points from Janelle Reichenbach, Centre County Christian fell to Cambria County Christian 42-39 on Friday.
Hannah Thomas added six points with 18 rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Kristy Maholic scored six points and stole eight passes.
“Our girls played right to the end, but fell just short,” said CCCA coach Marty Maholic. “It wasn’t for lack of effort, they played their hearts out tonight.”
