UNIVERSITY PARK — The State College girls' cross country team won the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State behind four top-10 finishers on Friday afternoon.
Chloe Schmidt captured the individual title for the Lady Little Lions, finishing in 19:10, 16 seconds better than second-place runner Katie Sick of Millville.
Lucia Sofo placed third (19:42), Nora Adams was ninth (20:36) and Tatum Del Bosco was 10th (20:36) for State College, which won the 13-team event with 30 points. Punxsutawney finished second (104 points) and Fairview was third (107).
“State College hasn’t won the Spiked Shoe Invitational in a long, long time,” coach Rebecca Donaghue said. “It was good to win with the times that we posted on a rainy and sloppy day. They were really impressive. I think our ranking in the state (sixth, according to penntrack. com) will go up.”
Bellefonte placed ninth (219 points) and Philipsburg- Osceola was 11th (253).

State College swept by Hempfield
HEMPFIELD — Hempfield defeated State College 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 on Friday.
Liz Novack produced six kills and seven digs for the Lady Little Lions. Suzy Horner added 13 assists and Maggie Harding had 10 digs for State College.
“We got outplayed by a great team,” State College coach Tomuke Ebuwei said. “We didn’t come ready to play and they took advantage of it in every facet of the game.”

CCCA rolls by Blair County
DUNCANSVILLE — Makayla Donley produced two goals and two assists to power Centre County Christian to a 5-0 victory over Blair County Christian on Friday.
Morgan Donley and Naomi Cahill added a goal and assist each for CCCA (1-1).
Hannah Thomas made six saves for the shutout.
