WINGATE — The Penns Valley girls' volleyball team gave Bald Eagle Area a good test before the Lady Eagles prevailed 25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20 Thursday night.
Maria Andrews’ seven kills, nine digs and two blocks led the Lady Rams (1-4) and Taylor Poorman gave out 15 assists.
No information was available for the Lady Eagles (5-0).
Philipsburg-Osceola tops Huntingdon
HUNTINGDON — In a showdown of two of the top teams in District 6, Philipsburg-Osceola edged Huntingdon 25-10, 26-28, 25-14, 25-19 Thursday.
The defending district Class AA champions were led by Taylor Harpster’s 18 kills and seven blocks in the physical matchup. Natasha Frank added 13 digs for the Lady Mounties (5-0).
The Lady Mounties, like every other Centre County team, will head to the St. Francis Invitational on Saturday.
Lady Raiders drop Warriors
BELLEFONTE — Kaity Clouser and Jena Matter each had double digits in kills as Bellefonte needed four sets to outlast Indian Valley 23-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 Thursday night.
Clouser led the Lady Red Raiders (5-0) with 13 kills while Matter added 12. Matter and Mandy Robbins also posted four aces each. Emily Putnam handed out 27 assists and Jerrica Harvey recorded nine digs.
Bellefonte will battle Huntingdon on Tuesday.

State College blanks another opponent
STATE COLLEGE — State College jumped ahead early, with three goals in the first 20 minutes, to dominate East Juniata 5-0 at South Track Field.
Laura Lovins scored two of the early first-half goals and Kelsey Graham added the other, with Lauren Eck andHeather Derrfinding the net after halftime. Graham, Eck, Rebecca Whitney, Kelsey Gill and Rachael Cooke all picked up assists.
Sarah Sallade made three saves for the shutout, the team’s fourth straight. The Lady Little Lions (5-0) face a major test at state No. 2 and 2008 PIAA finalist Peters Township on Saturday.
Bellefonte ousts Huntingdon
HUNTINGDON — Bellefonte’s Devin Kos scored two goals Thursday to help Bellefonte continue its strong start and take down Huntingdon 5-1.
Kristin Buchanan and Kos each scored in the first half to give Bellefonte (5-1) a 2-0 lead at the break. Abby Newman and Kos each scored in the first eight minutes of the second half as the Lady Red Raiders mounted a commanding four-goal lead.
Defensively, Bellefonte held Huntingdon to just three shots.
Indian Valley tops Penns Valley
BURNHAM — Dani Treaster scored three goals Thursday to lead Indian Valley past Penns Valley in a tight 3-2 contest.
Treaster scored once in the first half and twice more in the second half for the Lady Warriors. Her first goal was assisted by Linzee Ruby and the second was assisted by Cassie Schaeffer.
For Penns Valley (3-3), Brandie Heckman scored at the 12:15 mark and Liz Ventura found the net at 77:16 with help from Carolyn Darr.
Grace Prep falls
MILTON — Grace Prep had a rough day, losing to Medowbrook Christian 10-0.
Meagan Fox and Rachel Snider each turned away 10 shots for the Storm in the loss.
The loss drops Grace Prep to 2-3 on the season. Its next match will come Monday at home against DuBois Christian.

Golden Tigers top Little Lions
HOLLIDAYSBURG — Hollidaysburg needed just one goal to take down State College 1-0 Thursday and remain undefeated on the early season.
Hollidaysburg’s Garrett Shuster scored in the 23rd minute with an assist from Alex Prosser, booting home a rebound.
Jarrod Wassel saved nine shots in goal for the Golden Tigers (6-0).
State College (2-2) had plenty of scoring opportunities, including a 22-17 advantage in shots and a 10-4 edge in corner kicks.
Central Mountain blanks P-O
MILL HALL — Central Mountain used two second-half goals to drop Philipsburg-Osceola 2-0 Thursday.
George Riccardo and Logan Sonnie scored the Wildcats’ goals past Mounties keeper Josh Cowher, who made eight saves. P-O hit the crossbar twice but could not beat Zach Stauffer, who made three saves.
“If even one of those hadn’t hit the crossbar, we may have had a different ending to the game,” P-O assistant coach Ryan Long said. “Josh Cowher kept us in the game, unfortunately we couldn’t put one home.”
Grace Prep resilient in win
MILTON — Grace Prep pulled out a 6-3 win Thursday despite trailing 2-1 at halftime to Medowbrook Christian.
In that impressive second half, Smith Paul scored all three of his goals, while Satchel Powell and John Rothgeb added to the Storm total. Josh Maurer was the lone goal-scorer for Grace Prep in the first half.
Grace Prep (4-1) next plays at home Monday against DuBois Christian.
Bald Eagle falls
WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area could not get past the Lewistown defense in a 1-0 loss Thursday.
The lone goal came from the Panthers’ Zach Peachy at 38:23.
Otherwise, BEA keeper Josh Snyder was solid in net, making seven saves.
The Eagles (3-4) will be at Central Mountain on Tuesday.
FIELD HOCKEY
State College blanks East Juniata
COCOLAMUS — State College made a strong showing in shutting out East Juniata 2-0 Thursday.
The game-winner came early for the Lady Little Lions, as Rebecca Grande scored with help from Jackie Kenney and Hannah Zavacky at the 1:27 mark. The game was put on ice when Amanda Dinunzio scored an unassisted goal at 24:13 of the second half.
Goalie Lyuda Likhonia came home with the clean sheet, turning away all three shots she faced.
The Lady Little Lions (5-0) next host Indian Valley on Monday.
BOY'S GOLF
State College strong again
PHILIPSBURG — State College had all four of its players shoot 80 or better Thursday as the Little Lions (313) scored wins over Central (354), Philipsburg-Osceola (387) and Lewistown (406) at Philipsburg Country Club.
Cody Moore led the Little Lions (9-0) with a 6-over 76, Tanner Curley shot a 78, Adam Herrington had a 79 and Max Sutterlin carded an 80.
P-O was led by Tyler Arnold’s 88.
Hollidaysburg triumphs
MILL HALL — Hollidaysburg shot a team score of 320 Thursday to cruise past Central Mountain (350), Bellefonte (379) and Huntingdon (401).
Caleb Thomas led the Red Raiders (5-2) with a personal-best 84. He was followed by Robbie Proper with a 93.
