This year was the first time an autocross event was held. The two-day event helps benefit the Emily Whitehead Foundation named for a Philipsburg girl diagnosed with cancer in 2010 when she was 5 years old.
Mark Ballora, professor of music technology at Penn State, is a fan of sonification. Sonification is a data set represented as sound. Unlike most people, he tries to get people to listen to data like they listen to music and blur the line between science and art. To do so, he maps tropical storms using lifelike sound effects in addition to conventional visuals to recreate the life of a storm.
