In June 1967, the Bellefonte Borough Planning Commission adopted a formal resolution suggesting that a program of urban renewal be initiated in Bellefonte. The resolution pressed for the restoration of suitable existing and historical buildings while calling for the selective demolition of others.

About 2,500 volunteers from across the state came for the 1992 Pennsylvania Special Olympics held on Penn State’s campus. Volunteers spent the weekend making beds, serving meals and officiating events.

In June 2007, Jeff Pontius, vice president of operations at North Shore Railroad Co., brought six train cars built between 1919 and 1940 to Bellefonte. Train aficionados were privileged with a ride during that year’s Bellefonte Cruise.
