in grief and sorrow I see you go
while the sun sets orange on blue-white snow, and backlit branches
host the hawk
and love lies quiet in our saddening bed we talk of things both past and present
while future tense is quivering here
the tremulous air surrounds us both
we hold to each while letting go to go, to go, give flight your soul
as orange glow of purest fire
uplights your face
my heart
our room
and I am left with cold, cold hands let go my heart
up fly the hawk
soar high the birds in quickening dark
while I kneel, sore, below I will let go, let go
and breathe cold winter’s air
