Home is where the heart is — of course, a bed, television and fully stocked fridge wouldn’t go unnoticed either.
On Sept. 10, Centre County Orphan Care Alliance will co-sponsor Wait No More, an informational event that will be held at Calvary Church in Boalsburg for families considering adoption.
“You can be a place for a kid to grow and develop,” said Hillary Haris, director of outreach at CCOCA.
CCOCA is a collaborative effort among about 17 Centre County churches that is geared toward providing the resources and education necessary to match kids in need with a loving family. They are sponsoring Wait No More in conjunction with Focus on the Family, a Christian ministry.

Wait No More is geared specifically toward older children who are still in the foster system and in need of a more permanent arrangement.
“Older children have trouble getting adopted,” Haris said.
To help those in attendance get a better idea of just how big an effect adoption can have on a kid’s life, the event will feature a series of guest speakers with firsthand knowledge on the subject that stems from multiple perspectives.

The guest list for the microphone includes a mother who has adopted many of her children, a woman who was adopted at 12 years old and a woman who was never adopted and spent the bulk of her youth in the system.
Haris is hoping that after the event the three speakers won’t be the only ones still talking. She said that attendees have typically responded well to previous incarnations of Wait No More, with 37 percent of interested families choosing to start the adoption process the same day.
“People will be able to start conversations,” Haris said.
