Children pen images of mom on her special day

Today, we present more works by artists 12 and younger, who, when asked to draw sketches of their moms for Mother’s Day, rose to the occasion.

The sketches range from impressively detailed studies of mom to, well, let’s say some were more “abstract” portraits. But all came with the message, whether it was spelled out or not: “Happy Mother’s Day.”

We drew two sketches at random to determine who would win two prizes, with one of the prize winners announced Saturday. The second prize winner, we’re pleased to announce, was James Squier, a third-grade student from Julian, who will receive a gift certificate from Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
