The Centre Daily Times won five Pennsylvania News Media Association awards in the 2013 Newspaper of the Year contest.
The CDT, which competes with multi-day publications in the 20,000 to 39,999 circulation category, won the following awards:
• First Place in Newswriting Excellence: The editions judged, Sept. 16, 2012, and Feb. 11, 2013, included stories on the Penn State football coach Bill O’Brien’s first win and a Paterno family report.
• First Place Special Section: The CDT’s Active Life edition in March 2013 included content dealing specifically with senior citizen issues and lifestyles.
• Second Place Best Use of Photography: The editions judged, Sept. 2, 2012, and May 5, 2013, included photographs of a Penn State football home loss, a Good Life section profile of John Wetzler, a commencement, a derby, and a Good Life feature on bamboo fishing rods.
• Second Place Online Presence Award: The CDT won this award for its website content.
• Honorable Mention Layout and Design: The editions were May 18 and Dec. 23, 2013.
