Beginning in the summer, Delta Air Lines will add weekly direct service between State College and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to airport officials.
The flight will run on Saturdays from June 7 to Aug. 30, using a 50-seat regional jet. Reservations already are being accepted.
“Atlanta is a key destination for domestic flights from University Park Airport, with even greater demand during the summer months,” said James Meyer, director of the Centre County Airport Authority, in a news release. “The new service will allow for easy connections to a wide variety of domestic cities, as well as many vacation destinations serviced by Delta’s Latin and Caribbean flights, such as Belize, Guatemala, Mexico City and the gateway to the Turks and Caicos.”
This is the second flight added to the University Park Airport schedule in recent months. Twice-daily nonstop flights between State College and Chicago O’Hare International Airport began in January on United Airlines.
“Many factors go into an airline’s decision to add new routes, and we’re thrilled that Delta has scheduled this new nonstop destination for the busy summer months,” University Park Airport Director Bryan Rodgers said in a news release.
Daily flights are also offered between State College and Detroit, Philadelphia and Washington/Dulles on Delta, US Airways and United, respectively.
