Centre County avoided the foot of snow predicted late last week for Monday, but it’s not missing out on the Arctic blast that pushed all that snow southward.
Record-breaking low temperatures were forecast overnight Monday, with the mercury plummeting to minus 1, according to AccuWeather.com.
Centre County residents would have to go back more than 50 years — to March 3, 1943 — to match the historic low of 1 below zero set that date. In 1918, the historic low for all of March was minus 4 degrees, according to AccuWeather. In 1998, the record high was 87 degrees.
The average high for March 3 is 42 degrees; and the low, 24, according to AccuWeather.
Never miss a local story.
If those temperatures sound like a dream, hang in there: Temperatures are expected to begin climbing Tuesday into the mid-20s, and above freezing by Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.
The high temperature Friday is expected to be 47, and 41 Saturday.
