State police at Rockview charged a Spring Mills man with fraud and theft by deception this week.
According to police, Terry Lee Stahl, 58, repeatedly asked the victim, a 67-year-old man also from Spring Mills, for blank checks to purchase materials for the victim’s home, which Stahl was remodeling.
A total of 26 checks were received. The accused would then write the checks out to himself. Police said the checks added up to $28,920 between Feb. 12 and July 21, but the amount of work done and materials purchased totaled just $1,500.
District Judge Tom Jordan arraigned Stahl, setting bail at $60,000. Stahl was unable to post bond and is incarcerated at Centre County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing has been set for July 30.
