Central Pennsylvania Community Action is offering a home heating savings account program to eligible households as a way to stockpile money for winter heating bills.
The program matches participant savings dollar for dollar up to $250. People must save a minimum of $50 a month for four consecutive months, with an additional $50 savings allowed during that period.
The income limits are 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines, with a net worth under $10,000.
According to CPCA, the program “promotes good saving habits and reduces energy usage.”
The program is open to residents of Centre and Clearfield counties who use oil or natural gas.
Attendance at two workshops on budgeting and energy reduction is required. Money saved goes to the participants’ vendor of choice. Financial support was provided by Northwest Savings Bank.
