Crews were still on scene in Rush Township on Wednesday doing cleanup after a crash on U.S. Route 322 on Tuesday morning.
State police at Philipsburg said it started at about 6 a.m., when Shardeed Winkfield, 27, of Philadelphia, was driving westbound, heading downhill toward Philipsburg in a 2014 International tractor-trailer. He failed to negotiate a left turn on the road and crashed into a tree in a wooded area between two homes.
Winkfield and his passenger, Marcus Howard, 22, of Philadelphia, were taken to UPMC Altoona by Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services with “major injuries.”
Traffic was backed up both ways along the road while crews from Eagle Towing and Reese’s Towing attempted to pull the cab of the truck upright and out of the trees. The truck was gone by afternoon, but badly damaged trees were left behind. Crews were back on the scene Wednesday morning.
