University Park Airport and Bellefonte Airport are among the 20 Pennsylvania airports benefiting from $3.4 million in state transportation funding, Gov. Tom Corbett’s office announced Monday.
The funding from the state Department of Transportation’s aviation development program comes from the state’s jet fuel tax and leverages $1.5 million in local matching funds. University Park Airport will receive $350,000 to build a car parking lot, and Bellefonte Airport will receive $15,000 to remove obstructions to its facility.
According to Corbett’s office, the aviation development program “complements” the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants for economic development and better transportation. It was created by Act 89, a transportation program dedicating $6 million to aviation that was enacted last November to improve infrastructure throughout the state.
