The Centre County Board of Commissioners approved a contract between the county and CMT Labs for soil testing for phase one of the Temple Court project in Bellefonte.
The contract, which totals $4,880, will test for soil-bearing verification, concrete inspection/testing and structural steel connection inspections.
Any time concrete is poured, said Vice Chairman Chris Exarchos, you need to make sure the soil won’t cause problems.
More testing will likely be needed as construction continues, the commissioners agreed.
Never miss a local story.
As for the cost of the entire project, Commissioner Michael Pipe referred to the contract approved in July for $1.4 million. The ballpark figure for both phases will probably be double, he said, inching closer to $3 million.
“It all depends on how we finish out phase one and what sort of renovations occur in phase two,” Pipe said.
According to the commissioners, per the existing contract, the current phase should be completed by the end of the year.
