A Penn State student is facing numerous charges after attempting to elude police early Saturday morning.
State College police Lt. Mark Argiro said the 20-year-old man from Great Falls, Va., was walking near the Locust Lane-East Fairmount Avenue intersection around 12:38 a.m. when a foot patrol officer spotted him with an open beer can.
The officer attempted to stop the man, who then threw the beer can into a yard, Argiro said.
Argiro said that when the officer grabbed the man’s arm, the suspect pulled away and ran south on Locust Lane toward bicycle patrol officers who detained the student after a brief struggle.

Police contacted the victim’s mother, who asked police to take her son to the hospital.
He was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center and found with a blood alcohol content of 0.11, Argiro said.
The man will be charged with underage drinking, scattering rubbish, resisting arrest, escape and more, Argiro said.
