Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School sent students home at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday due to a sewage backup in the school cafeteria.
Superintendent Gregg Paladina said the school district would not prepare food in the cafeteria while there is a sewage backup. He also said the school district considered having school lunches prepared from another location.
“We weren’t able to do that within a reasonable time frame,” Paladina said.
He said the early release was a precautionary measure and that the backup does not appear to be affecting any other part of the school. The district’s maintenance staff is investigating the cause of the backup.
Paladina said the school district learned about the problem at about 10 a.m. and shortly after decided to release students early.
The school district does not anticipate canceling any after-school sports or activities, though it will continue to monitor the problem.
