The Centre County Board of Commissioners approved a lease agreement Tuesday between the county and New Cingular Wireless PCS for the placement of equipment on the Woodward 911 tower.
Under the agreement, Cingular will pay the county a monthly rental fee of $2,600 for an initial term of five years, 911 official Gene Lauri said. The contract will renew for four additional terms with a payment increase of 10 percent with each term.
Cingular also will reimburse the county $27,863 for the cost of a generator to be installed at the site, Lauri said. The agreement and payments are expected to begin Saturday.
The tower costs about $400,000, according to Chairman Steve Dershem. “This was not an insignificant capital outlay for us, so we’re looking for some means of reimbursement for those dollars.”
