An ongoing program has awarded several fire and emergency response organizations in the county more than $170,000 in state grants.
According to a news release from state Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, the funding is from a program administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
Every organization that completes the application receives funding, the release said, toward projects like construction or renovation of a facility, purchase or repair of equipment and training.
“I am fully supportive of a grant program that provides financial support to organizations that make it their mission to protect the public,” Benninghoff said. “I am grateful for their willingness to serve their communities with such bravery and sacrifice.”

Centre County organizations receiving funding include Alpha Fire Company, Bellefonte EMS, Centre Hall Volunteer Fire Company, Pleasant Gap Fire Company and Walker Township Volunteer Fire Company.
