Child finds rusted rifle in State College-area stream

An 8-year-old playing in an area stream discovered a modified rifle in the water Sunday afternoon.

The rifle, a .32 special, had likely been in the stream for sometime, officers said, as much of the weapon’s metal had been rusted.

The child who found the rifle did so while playing in a stream near the 800 block of Ashwood Lane. The rifle was wedged into the bottom of the stream underneath a rock.

Police said the rifle was not in working condition. The department is attempting to find out who owns it.
