closeAll practices, open gyms and other after-school activities at Mount Nittany Middle School have been canceled due to a power outage.
The outage is one of many reported across Centre County today as high winds snap tree limbs and drag down power lines.
As of 12:30 p.m., about 800 Allegheny Power customers in Centre County were without power, primarily due to the winds, said Doug Colafella, Allegheny Power spokesman. The outages were scattered across the county, with the largest being one that affected about 500 customers in Centre Hall. Another, reported in the Julian area, left about 150 customers without power.
Colafella said at the time that power to most of those customers would be restored by early afternoon. However, the winds continued to cause problems, and the National Weather Service had issued a high wind warning through 8 o'clock tonight. According to the weather service, strong westerly winds in the wake of a cold front were expected to occasionally gust as high as 60 mph this afternoon and early this evening. The winds were expected to begin to diminish after sunset.
