closeA 13-year-old girl reported to Tyrone police that a man in a red pickup truck tried to abduct her as she was walking to school Thursday, Tyrone police announced.
The girl told police that the man stopped his truck as she was walking in the 500 to 600 block of Washington Avenue in Tyrone and told her that he knew her name and knew who she is. He then stepped from the truck and the girl ran home.
The incident, police said, is similar to other incidents reported in past years. The suspect is described as having short, gray hair, wearing blue jeans and boots. Anyone with information is asked to call the Tyrone police at 684-1364.
Tyrone police are advising that children be given a ride to school if possible, and it not, that they walk in groups. If a red truck is seen in the area with a man fitting the above description, a call should be immediately placed to 911, police said.
