closeI-80 construction may greet fans
Travelers to Penn State home football games may run into some construction on Interstate 80 after all.
The state Department of Transportation issued a correction saying that, contrary to an advisory issued last week, some lane restrictions between Bellefonte exit 161 and Milesburg exit 158 may remain in place during home football weekends. Eastbound lanes on I-80 in the county will have no restrictions during the home game weekends.
To ease congestion through the Bellefonte/Milesburg area, PennDOT has shortened the westbound work area restriction to within a mile east of the Bellefonte exit and will monitor the work zone and make adjustments to accommodate traffic volumes when possible.
The project on I-80 is ahead of schedule, according to PennDOT, and is expected to be completed by the end of October. It was originally slated for completion in August 2008.
In addition, all lane closures on state Route 150 (Benner Pike) have been lifted, and PennDOT will clear U.S. Route 322 west of State College to ensure there will be no construction vehicles crossing the roadway near Skytop on home game weekends.
